The Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar is all set to release the India Rankings 2017 of National Institutional Ranking Framework - NIRF today, April 3.
The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), which was introduced in 2016, conducted the ranking system for Indian universities based on various parameters.
The ranking system was first developed by the MHRD back in the September of 2015.
It is widely speculated that the NIRF is all set with the process of collecting data about the universities and higher educational institutes through the Data Capturing System (DCS).
More on the ranking:
- According to reports, the ranking is done on the basis of teaching, learning and resources, research and professional practices, graduation outcomes, outreach and inclusivity, and perception
- The methodology draws from the overall recommendations broad understanding arrived at by a Core Committee set up by the Ministry of Human Resources Development, to identify the broad parameters for ranking various universities and institutions.
- Further, the project has over 800 new participants.
Last year, IIT Madras secures the top spot, as the topmost engineering college, followed by IIT Mumbai and IIT Kharagpur. The top management institution is IIM Bangalore, while Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore is the best university in India.
Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and the University of Hyderabad have also made the cut in the list of best universities of India. While the JNU has been ranked third, Hyderabad University has been named fourth best institute. Both Hyderabad Central University and JNU were in the news over the death of Rohith Vemula and the sedition row.
